Abstract
This study discusses the impact of the new media podcast on the local radio industry in Semarang. The presence of podcasts makes this oldest mass media increasingly threatened. Podcasts are packaged increasingly following the needs of the community. The public is free to listen to the broadcast anywhere and anytime and the public is free of the topics they want to listen to. Therefore, Podcasts have the potential to replace this oldest mass media. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, documentation, and interviews with local radio program directors in Semarang who have podcasts, namely Radio Ichthus, Radio Rhema, Radio Imelda, and Radio Idola. The results of this study are the average segmentation of the four local radios that are the object of this research are young people. It is rare nowadays for young people to buy a new radio or just listen. Most young people are starting to shift to listening to podcasts, so the strategy used is to create Radio Podcasts to lure young listeners. Radio podcasts are made without losing the characteristics of radio, but still packed with new media characteristics. In conclusion, the presence of podcasts has an impact on local radio in Semarang. The impact felt by local radio in Semarang covers various aspects. So that the development of technology makes local radio obliged to play a strategy to keep up with changes and technological developments so as not to be abandoned by the community. Using Podcasts as a strategy yields maximum results. Podcast has succeeded in expanding Semarang's local radio listeners.
