Abstract

The Hundred-Foot Journey directed by Lasse Hallström, is a film about an Indian family moving to a little village in the southern part of France. Initially they experience several discrimination, but at the end they can be accepted by their fellow villagers. This thesis aims to find out the kinds of discriminations and tolerance that is developed in multicultural society.. The Hundred-Foot Journey is fascinating to be used as research because this film shows events that reflect things that often occur in society. This research was a qualitative method using theories on multiculturalism to better understand discriminations and tolerances in multicultural society. The data collected show that the discriminations occurred due to ethnic differences in terms of food, music, cultural backgrounds. Social discrimination also happen in the film because of the stereotypes that immigrants are poor. The results also show that tolerance that develops later on, brings better conditions and benefits for all
