Abstract

In 2020 the whole world was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. This pandemic has forced people to stay at home. Home alone can make people feel bored, and therefore, people try to find activities that can keep them productive and sane. Communication is the main media for people to stay connected with each other. Since people cannot meet with each other offline, social media has become the bridge to communicate. One of those media is Tiktok, whose users have increased during the pandemic. This application, intended to make short videos with music, provides a different kind of entertainment for its users. This study aims to find out what Tiktok users do and their effect on self-confidence or narcissism by using a questionnaire uploaded in Google Form. In analyzing and interpreting Tiktok as a form of Popular Culture, this study uses the theory of Cultural Hybridity. This research finds that: 86% of respondents agree that Tiktok can bring narcissism, and Tiktok is made more popular by use of Cultural Hybridity means
