Abstract

In this study, the writer tries to find out the individualism character of Steve Rogers, who is known as Captain America,. Using the philosophy of self-reliance from Ralph Waldo Emerson, which becomes the basis for the individualism, Captain America’s actions and way of thinking that proves his individualism is found. Through a qualitative method, it is found that Captain America’s individualism is shown through his (1) strong will, (2) originality and creativity, and (3) self-reliance. By showing all of these qualities, Captain America has proven as a character who highly trusts in himself. He is also a character that is original in finding his ways to become a hero, and thus, is acknowledged as a self-reliant individual
