Abstract

Translation is a process of transferring words from a source language into the target language. Through time, translation has become more sophisticated with the emergence of machine translation, and people especially readers start to question the capabilities of the machine translations. The most common method being used nowadays in translation is HAMT (Human Assisted Machine Translation) and the more traditional HT (Human Translation). The study needs to be conducted between these two different methods of translation. The study aims to find out how the readers react to both of these translations, how they rate each of the translations and the reasons behind it. The researcher analyzed the responses from the readers in a questionnaire of an assessment sheet and conducted some interviews to confirm the findings. The results showed that both translations are equally preferred by the readers, but one method obtained a slightly higher preference from the readers. It shows that translation done in the HAMT method obtains a slightly better score and is chosen by 16 out of 30 readers.
