Abstract
Origin, the last book of Dan Brown‘s book, the Robert Langdon series, tells a story about human ancestry in science and religion. Origin discusses symbols and mystery that answer the question of where human beings are from. Like other works by Dan Brown, this book presents many religious symbols, especially the Catholic Church‘s symbols. This study aims to find out the symbols of the Catholic Church employed in Dan Brown‘s Origin and to find out the meanings of the symbols. The type of study was qualitative research. The writer used Semiotics theory to help to analyze the recurring symbols in Origin. From the data collected, the writer found that symbols of Catholic Church such as a crucifix, a cross with the figure of the body of Jesus Christ, representing the fate; Papal Cross, the emblem of the authority of the Pope, representing the trinity and authority; rosary beads, a tool used to pray and meditation, representing communication with God; Jesus Fish, a symbols of Fish that parodies the Christian representing the evolution; Cross, the symbol of Jesus death and his resurrection, representing sacrifice of Jesus; and Lambda, a scientific symbol common in the fields of evolution, particle physics, and cosmology, representing religion that supported by science.
