Abstract

The most widely used proficiency test in the world is the TOEFL. TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. TOEFL examines students’ proficiency in English such as Listening, Structure, and Reading. This study is related to TOEFL and focused on structure and written expressions section. This study examined which skills were difficult for students on the TOEFL. The number of participants of this study was 45 students of the Faculty of Language and Arts Catholic Soegijapranata University. Descriptive analysis was used in order to assist the writer in analyzing the data found. The findings show that there were 3 classification items; difficult items, medium items, and easy items. Converning the diddficul difficult items and medium items, 8 skills of the structure were difficult for the students. The skills were inversions, agreement, parallel structure, reduced clauses, problems with nouns, problems with verbs and problems with adjectives.
