Abstract
To know about what the movie tells, people usually try to look at the tittle of the movies. It will show that the movie is about. However, some of the movie tittles are sometimes ambiguous. This study is aimed to know the ambiguity of movie titles. There three kinds of ambiguity which a movie tittle might have. They are the lexical, referential and syntactic ambiguity. This study used qualitative approach involving 18 movie titles which were analised using Kreidler’s theory (Kreidler, 1998). This study finds out that among the tittles that the writer got, referential ambiguity is the most frequent one. To see from the genre of the film, the action blockbuster is the genre which has the most ambiguity tittle found by the writer.
