Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the dynamics of seasonal affective disorders in young adult women. The subject was a young adult women with seasonal affective disorder. The research method was qualitative with approach case studies. The data collection methods are interviews, observation and measurement using SPAQ and BDI-II. The data analysis method was matrix by Miles & Hubberman consisting of three stages of simultanious activities, they were: data reduction, data presentation, and conclucion. The results of this study indicate: 1). The personality structure of young adult women is not harmonious with a weak ego so that super ego dominates; 2). Many conflicts and unresolved trauma that prevent the discharge return to equilibrium; 3). The use of immature self defense mechanisms (repression, isolation and fantasy; 4). Multifactorial causes of depression in young adult women such as a history of depression in siblings, depressive personality tendencies and social pressures in the form of conflicts and traumatic events; 5). Recurrent of episodes every rainy season characterized by atypical symptoms (day-long sadness, fatigue, craving carbohydrate, hypersomnia and social isolation; 6). Past traumatic events about the rainy season are related to recurrent episodes of Seasonal Affective Disorder that appear during the rainy season; 7). The results of BDI-II showed a decrease in score which also means a decrease in the severity of depression experienced along with the change of the rainy season to summer. Keywords: seasonal affective disorder, young adult women
