Abstract
The Latin word cultivare from which the English word cultivate is originated becomes the basis for the definition of culture. With cultivate to synonymously mean to plant, grow or develop, W. McOmie defines culture as "the result of the maSS cultivation of a certain way of seeing, thinking, assuming. believing, and behaving in the members of a society" (1990: 178). This is similar to B. Tomalin and S. Stempleski's definition of culture, which refers to the "beliefs and perceptions, especially expressed through language, but also through cultural behaviors that affect acceptability in the host community" (1993: fi). In other words, whatever constituents help society to develop itself in unity is what generated culture
