Abstract

Consumption pattern is a description of the type, portion, and size of the food consumed by each individual to fill individual’s nutrition needs. Solo City as one of the icons of Central Java Province has a poor record in the consumption of vegetables. This study aimed to know what kinds of vegetables consumed by respondents using Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), the intake of vitamins and minerals consumed by respondents, and to know what kinds of vegetables consumed by respondent based on their economy level using Recall Diet 24-hour Family Food Profile. The research location was determined using purposive sampling method, while the respondents was determined using snowball sampling method. The instruments used in this research were Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) to obtain information about the type, frequency, and amount of vegetables consumed by respondents and Recall Diet 24-hour Family Food Profile for six days in two weeks (4 days weekdays and 2 days weekends) to acquire the intake of energy, vitamins, and minerals from vegetables consumed by respondents. The result from FFQ were showed that the most frequent consumed vegetables were broccoli, eggplant, and carrot, while the highest amount consumed vegetables were carrot, cauliflower, and young jackfruit. In addition, the result from Recall Diet 24-hour showed only the vitamin K from vegetables is more than 100% daily value (185.75%). From the results indicated that Surakarta’s people needs a program to increase the awareness of the consumption of vegetables, and then further research on fruit intake is needed, because fruit is also a source of vitamins and minerals for the body.
