Abstract
This research focuses on the reality that Punks is pessimistic about the outer world. The research especially focuses on Blink 182 which is a punk music group that supports the movement of Punks. The writer has chosen three songs to analyze the words in the three songs denote the pessimistic view of Blink 182 and how do the words, phrase, and ideas from the three songs connote pessimistic view of Blink 182. The first song tells about Tom‟s personal experience when his parents divorced. The second song tells about a boy that tend to suicide because of he had been bullied by his friends and felt abandoned. The third song tells about the atmosphere in United States of America during the war and also Mark‟s grand father‟s letter to his wife. By using Barthe‟s semiotics it is found that words such as “dead, last, gone, disappointment, exhaustion, crippled, depressed, alone, empty, and dark,” show how pessimistic the punks as represented by the Blink 182 singers are about the world.
