Abstract

Kampung Pelangi (The Tiny Rainbow Village) has attracted Indonesian netizen’s attention recently. This three-billion-rupiah-government's project has been used by residents very well to improve the quality of their environment, becoming an environment that attracts tourists. Kampung Gunung Brintik, originally a slum village, has finally "transformed" into a colorful village that became a selfie object to residents or people who come. Kampung Pelangi is attracting because not only its colorful painted area but also design motifs that are presented in the public area of Kampung Pelangi. The Kampung’s residents paint and develop the motive designs. To find out the aesthetic element is then held a brief study on environmental aesthetics studies based on Berlyne theory with qualitative description method. The result is an observation of the complexity, incongruity, novelty, surprise, and type of exploration on design motifs in Kampung Pelangi public areas. Keywords: Kampung Pelangi, environmental aesthetics study.
