Abstract
There are many genres of films. They can be horror, romance, science-fiction or thriller. However, although there are different genres of films, generally, a film follows five stages as proposed by Todorov in his Narrative Theory. The stages are equilibrium, disruption, realisation, restored order and equilibrium again. The writer in this study used a film tittled Avatar as the subject of discussion. The writer watched the film and chose the scenes which were matched with Todorov’s Narrative Theory. There were two perspectives that were used by the writer to categorised a certain scene as the part of the Narrative Theory stage. First was when the main character, Jake Sully, was a human. Second was when the main character got into his Avatar body and became a Na’vi.
