Abstract

Dutch Batik is one of the treasured assets in Indonesia. All of Dutch Batik was made by Indo-Dutch women who resided in Northern Coastal area during Dutch colonialism era. They chose European theme and so the dominant patterns are European flower bouquets, animals, and human figures. In this thesis, the writer discussed and analyzed the characteristics of Dutch Batik by using library research. The writer also utilized historical approach to find out the history of Dutch Batik. In the thesis, the writer attempted to collect and analyze five batik samples to see whether there were traces of Dutch culture on those samples. The result of the analysis shows that there are traces of Dutch culture in the Indonesian-Dutch batik which are flower bouquets ‘buketan’, the one of the inclusion of animals especially butterflies and birds; and human figures.
