Abstract

There is a phenomenon that comic from Japan which is written in English is translated in Indonesian language. This study is done to investigate two things: the method of translation used in translating the English version of Kaichou wa maid-sama! 1 and the kinds of distortions found in the English translation of Kaichou wa maid-sama! 1? This is a quantitative study as the writer does not use any data in numbers and there is only one comics investigated. By comparing the data got from both version of My Sweet Kaicho, the writer finds that the methods the translator used in translating My Sweet Kaicho are faithful (19 data), free (153 data), idiomatic(10 data) and communicative translations (64 data). Mostly, the translator translates the text in the comics freely as the highest number is found in free translation.. The sentences that are translated without any distortion is 65 data which are less than the distortion translations, 57 overtranslations and 116 undertranslation. This means that in translating My Sweet Kaicho, the translator has made some distortion and there is one sentence which is not translated.
