Abstract

English is one of the essential requirements in the world of education and professional as an international language, the skill of English proficiency often scaled using a test with international standards such as TOEFL. However, monotonous learning methods can make learners feel bored and less motivated. Therefore, this research presents Lingua Journey, Lingua Journey is an educational game designed to help users in preparing for a TOEFL test. This game is created using Unity Engine with the help of database technology for managing questions and answers, adapting four main skills, that is Grammar, Reading, Listening, and Writing. Besides that, the system also equipped with automatic assessment feature on the Writing section which utilize artificial intelligence. Each skill is presented with interactive quiz using a turn-based system. Game design combining game elements such as Hero, Enemy, and Health Bar, which give feedback to the player. Questionnaire results of 35 respondents used as a qualitative data and majority of the result answered positively, so that Lingua Journey considered helpful on TOEFL test preparation.
