Abstract

The "International Grade 1/A Racing Track / Circuit in Banyuwangi" is a visionary project aimed at establishing a world-class motorsport venue in Purwoharjo Regency, East Java. Situated near Gradjagan Village, the site offers vast untouched landscapes and stunning views of Alas Purwo National Park and the Indian Ocean, creating a unique opportunity to design a circuit that harmonises with its natural surroundings. This project addresses the shortage of high-quality racing circuits in Indonesia, particularly on the island of Java, where a significant motorsport fanbase resides. Indonesia, with its rich motorsport culture and notable international racers, currently lacks sufficient Grade 1/A circuits for professional training and events. Existing venues, such as the Sentul Circuit, require significant upgrades, while the Mandalika Circuit, despite its world-class standards, faces accessibility challenges for fans on Java. The lack of adequate facilities has limited opportunities for Indonesian racers to train domestically, compelling many to seek resources abroad. Moreover, the absence of proper venues contributes to the prevalence of illegal street racing, underscoring the need for a safe and regulated alternative. The proposed circuit integrates organic architectural principles, blending functionality with sustainability. Key facilities include iconic grandstands, paddocks, and pit buildings designed to meet FIA and FIM regulations, alongside supporting infrastructure for spectators and event organisers. The design emphasises eco-friendly materials, landscaped transitions, and efficient circulation for diverse users, ensuring the project aligns with Banyuwangi’s commitment to being a "Green City" and an eco-tourism hub. This project serves multiple purposes: providing a professional training ground for aspiring racers, offering a venue for recreational track days, and hosting national and international racing events. Beyond its functional objectives, the circuit seeks to enhance Banyuwangi's reputation as a tourism destination, stimulate economic growth, and establish Indonesia as a key player in the global motorsport arena. By combining organic design with international standards, this circuit aims to become an iconic symbol of Indonesia’s passion for motorsport and its commitment to progress.
