Abstract

English is a foreign language in Indonesia because it is not used in daily communication. This reality, sometimes, makes it difficult for English learners to improve their language mastery/proficiency. Due to such condition, the success of foreign language learning will greatly depend n each individual. The purpose of this study is to find out the motivation of D and S 1 student in.-teaming English. This is also to find out the j-fferences between 03 and S I students motivation in ./ learning English. The s uay will show the 7,dpnts- the imp in learning English. Therefore, the results of the study may hel improve their motivation in learning English. Facul 1>' of Letters The data Socgijapranata C' tliolic Uni1J;ers\~ Scmarang. There were 60 respo . I ~ \ from the respondents, the writer used the {lue~tionnaires. In this study, the writer used a close-ended questionnaire wit the Likert The respondents' answers were analyzed based on the mean The results of the study showed that D3 students' motivation t~nds to be instrumental. S I students' motivation in learning English is not only iJtrumcfltal as 03's, but it is also integrative. D3 and S I students have different motivation in learning English. They have their own motives and purposes in studying English.
