Abstract

One of the spectrums of schizophrenia is schizoaffective disorder, which includes psychotic symptoms: delusions (false beliefs about reality) and hallucinations misperceptions through the senses), while the symptoms of mood disturbance disorder include: depression, mania, and mixed states. The aim of this study is to enhance the subjective reality of participants experiencing incongruence between the envisioned self (ideal self) and the experienced self (real self) into congruence. This research employs a qualitative phenomenological method using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Data collection in this study is conducted through in-depth interviews. The data collection process involves interviews and observations. The participant is a 26-year-old female with schizoaffective disorder, depressive type, and dependent personality. Three major themes were revealed: guilt, low self-esteem, and manifested anxiety in the form of incongruence in the participant. The Person-Centered Therapy technique is implemented through 5 sessions to facilitate self-insight for the participant to achieve congruence in subjective reality, namely: 1) Acceptance of her current condition. 2) Understanding her potential (enhancing her abilities and interests). 3) Developing a sense of self-responsibility. Keywords: Person Centered Therapy, Schizoaffective Depressive Type, Incongruence, Congruence.
