Abstract

The purposes or this study arc lo investigate types or request strategics that students and lecturers of Faculty or Language and Arts in Socgijapranutu Catholic University Semarang use when they arc interacting using onlinc communication, lo find out how the principles or degree of imposition influence students and lecturers lo make requests, and also lo examine whether medals were used to express politeness. The numbers or participants were 17 people; the participants were divided into two categories (7 lecturers and l () students or Faculty Language and Arts). To collect the dutu the researcher asked the pun icipants to make scrccnshois or conversations bet \ en students lo lecturers, students to students. lecturers lo students, and lecturers to lecturers which contain request strategics. The researcher al ·o u .c l quuluuri 'c method to discover the finding. The result of this research show that both lecturers and student in Faculty or Language and Arts prefer to use direct request, spcci Iical l y irnperativcs w hen they were making requests. They also understand about the rclati n or· degree of imposition. status, anti social distance rn general. and the participants also showed that they more frequently u scd s1mpk complex form 10 make a request than the complex one.
