Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is to find out how far the Faculty of Letters students' knowledge on common English phrasal verbs is. Phrasal verbs are used daily in English. Phrasal verbs are taught at Faculty of Letters Soegijapranata Catholic University. The subjects involved in this study are 35 students from the academic year of 2008. The dfita are obtained by distributing two tests to the subjects. The test iterrls are- taken from Fundamentals of English Grammar 3r(i lufition Wot'fchook by Azar.__{200�). The answers from the students are calculated to generate the scores of'the �udeots. The average scores f.or two tests are 40 and 60,30. The subjects perform better in choosing the meaning- of phrasal verbs (test type 2) than in adding particles to the verbs to form phrasal verbs (te�t type L). The result of this study shows that most ofthe subjects have limited knowledge on common English phrasal verb •
