Abstract

BACKGROUND: Appendicitis is a common occurrence in both adults and children. This condition is most common between the ages of 10 and 20 years, with a lifetime risk of 8.6% in men and 6.7% in women. Anatomically, the walls of the caecum in children are thinner than adults, the caecum cannot expand, and the omentum is smaller, so it cannot prevent the spread of infection thereby increasing the incidence of perforation in children. The public's perception of the occurrence of appendicitis is to regard appendicitis as an ulcer disease or illness due to late eating so that ordinary people underestimate appendicitis. So knowledge of acute appendicitis in children is very important because the formation of a person's actions is based on domain knowledge and is very important, one of the factors that influence a person's knowledge is the level of education because education is a means used by an individual so that later he gains an understanding of awareness about health. PURPOSE: Knowing the relationship between parents' education level and knowledge about acute appendicitis in children at SD Shalom Semarang METHOD: This study used an analytic observational design with a cross sectional approach. The research was conducted on the parents of SD Shalom Semarang students who were in grades 4 to 6 with a total of 50 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed univariately, bivariately using the Chi-square test. RESULT: The results showed that there was no relationship between parents' education level and knowledge about acute appendicitis in children at SD Shalom Semarang (p = 0.077). CONCLUSION: There is no relationship between parents' education level and knowledge about acute appendicitis in children at SD Shalom Semarang.
