Abstract

Abstract. Indonesian millennials have a low level of work engagement. Such a shame because this generation is dominating the workplace with 53% of the total workforce. Millennials tend to be more engaged with their work and company when they know the meaning of their work. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between meaningfulness and work engagement among Indonesian millennials. The subjects in this study consist of 223 respondents with age ranging from 24 to 39 years old. The measurement tools used in this study are Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) and Working and Meaning Inventory (WAMI) which had been adapted and tested for validity. The researcher uses Pearson Product Moment to analyze the result. Based on the hypothesis test, the correlation coefficient value (rxy) is 0.744 with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p <0.001), therefore the hypothesis is accepted. The results of the hypothesis test indicate that there is a positive relationship between meaningfulness and work engagement. So, when millennials can find out the meaning of their work, they can be more engaged with their work and company. Keywords: work engagement, meaningfulness, the millennial generation
