Abstract

Slavery in the United States of America is portrayed well in a movie tittled 12 Years a Slave. The slavery happens because of the presence of discrimination done by the people who think that they have the right to treat other people as they wish. The movie shows that slavery can be categorised as intentional discrimination. It is intentional because the reason for their becoming slaves is the fact that they are black people who are considered more inferior than the white people. Solomon is taken and beaten like an animal, sold like an animal, forced to sleep on the ground, denied of their own name and given improper food in quantity and in quality. He must also work like there is no other day, have no day off, and is denied of the rights to state his own opinions. Patsey, during her slavery, was being raped by her master and treated badly. The findings also show that the discrimination experienced by Solomon and Patsey is an institutional discrimination because the discrimination is supported by the whole public and the law.
