Abstract

Indonesia is encouraging the growth of tourism villages in its tourism sector by developing areas with environment, natural resources and cultural potentials, of which one of them is in Semarang, Sentra Pengasapan Ikan Bandarharjo. Unfortunately, Bandarharjo‟s condition is not well preserved, and is likely to be demolished by road development project around it. Minimum information surrounding its existence, the changing of time and the lack of attention from society and government have also made Bandarharjo‟s image worsen. In spite of that, Sentra Pengasapan Ikan Bandarharjo still clings to its tradition as exclusive smoked fish maker community well known for its use of traditional method and tools. That is why Sentra Pengasapan Ikan Bandarharjo deserved to be preserved and developed into travel destination with tourism village concept based on its unique cultural potential, the traditional process of smoking fish. The tourism village concept for Bandarharjo will be joined by the use of destination branding through creative concept of Visual Communication Design and the application of Ecotourism view. The name selected for Bandarharjo‟s tourism village is “Kampung Iwak Asap”, chosen based on the environment and traditional flow of the location. “Kampung Iwak Asap” gives tourists insights and firsthand experience on fish smoking process and providing them facilities to experience the Javanese Coastal Fishermen‟s way of life. This project is created in hope of changing the perception of people about Sentra Pengasapan Ikan Bandarharjo and to help develop this location into one of Semarang‟s own tourism village destination.
