Abstract

Translation is not an easy job. The act of translation is not only transferring words from one language into another, but it is a way of written communication. In this form of communication, a translator has to pay attention to several factors to determine a successful transfer of meanings. Going beyond a thing of transferring words, a translation has to consider cultural elements in a text, or as Hatim and Mason (2005) state translation is exchanging cultural idea (Hatim & Mason, 2005). The writer conducted a research on the analysis of translation techniques applied in the novel entitled The Fault in Our Stars written by Green (2012) as the source text and The Fault in Our Stars translated by Nimpoeno (2015) as the Target Text. She wanted to find out the techniques suggested by Molina and Albir (2002) that are applied in the novel. The data were collected by analysing the first chapter of the novel and they were classified into the techniques suggested by Molina and Albir. From the analysis, she found out ten out of eighteen techniques were applied.
